It's like they're not even trying to hide that this is actually a Mustang.

Who buys these?

"Hey boss, we ran out of sheet metal and plastic."
"Put it on sale, Jay, fuck it."

If you're gonna do this, at least use a convertible so the roofline isn't as discordant.

Apparently Zimmer has a customer base of some kind because I remember first seeing an ad for one in DuPont Registry nearly fifteen years ago.

There have been many iterations based on different cars. The new Mustang, Fox Body 'Stangs and Mercury Cougars. The best come from Japan. This is the Mitsuoka Le Seyde.
And because it's based on a Nissan Silvia S13/S15, it can do this...

True, here's an older one that isn't so obviously a Mustang until you really look at the doors.

That may be the ugliest thing I've ever seen and I look at me every morning in the mirror.

That looks so strange yet so good.

Zimmer and Excalibur are an affront to aesthetics in general.

I've never seen one that doesn't look like crap. I have no idea who would pay real money for one.

I wouldn't buy that even with Monopoly money.

There's also a hardtop convertible version based on the relatively rare Nissan Silvia Varietta, sold in Japan only.

I know they have been around for a while, because they made Fiero based ones, but I've never actually seen a new one.

Think of it as a gateway car... Just leads to worse down the line.

I'm baffled as to why I like this one more than the others. I guess, in spite of its lack of sanity it is less discordant.

That is...better than expected.

I'm supposing it's because the Japanese ones are better put together and are thus better engineered.

It's possible, though I think Fox bodies are fairly well put together too. You might be onto something because I don't think the early Golden Spirits look that bad either.

The 1980s era Zimmers hid it better, they were based on the Fox body Mustangs, but only the doors and windshield were left visible on the outside and the whole interior was redone.
The new Zimmer company is much smaller and less well capitalized than the original, so the new cars look way more half-assed. I believe they get away with charging like 6 figures for the privileged too.
